going through a seriously TVB-mad phase right now. there's something totally addictive about TVB dramas. and well, there's something very satisfying about watching a show in cantonese, with chinese subtitles. although, admittedly, i watch more of it with english subs, because it's weird to be only watching the lower third of the screen. i watch it with chinese subs just to prove that i can. haha.
even maryam has gotten into the whole TVB-thing. it's rather amusing to get messages from her like 'wah lieu, the mother is such a bitch!'
i think tvb's good for me—in a sense reminding me of my roots, however cheesy/overused a phrase that might be. watching so much project runway/prison break/grey's anatomy might have been fun, but for some reason, watching tvb dramas is more fun, especially period dramas, because i guess at a deep, visceral level something calls to my inner Chinaman—or woman.
